l (one to one)

after the Kit Miles lecture i went straight to the library and done hard photoshopping. the one to one was today so i wanted to have lots to show. i still haven't redone what i lost the other day, but i figured that what i had lost was the working building up to the scarf, so i still know what i want to do so i could do the scarf design and then go back and re do what i had done (if that makes sense). so i don't it it did take a while. i managed to find a way to incorporate the textured papers, i used it as a background and used what i done it the photoshop work shop as over the top as an all over print. i then created a border using the wire like font, spelling out four phrases so there was one on each side (PUPPET MAN, IN THA HIZZY, BIG DAWG, NORWICH) the phrases were sort of based on i mean they are like youthful like street slang terms i guess, and i chose them because it relates to the pose that puppet man is in he has like his hands up it looks like he is saying "raise the roof". it feel really lame when i explain it but its like a joke like haha. anyways i didn't have time to put the image of puppet man on the top so this is what i had to show at my one to one:

at the time i was happy with it.
so i went to my one to one sort of befrazzled and all over the place but my one to one went really well although i was dreading it. i had Jon MacCaulay and he was very nice. he said i had an interesting drawing style and liked the colour scheme i was working with. it was going swimmingly i could even say. but then i showed him my scarf design and he said it was 'a nice start'. i was like :'(. his advice was:
  • to interview puppet man wah
  • get some samples printed
  • sketchbook puppet man diary. create/generate more drawing/collage
  • create more design ideas
i am hesitant to say the least about this idea to interview puppet man. in interviews i have watched online he seems a bit unpredictable sometimes he seems very responsive but others its like he doesn't want to talk to people about anything and i don't know how his reaction would be like. i have been meaning for weeks now to get some samples printed though i just wanted enough work to go and make the most of it because it isn't a cheap process digital printing, and i don't want it to be a waste. what Jon said was that he wanted my sketch book to be like a homage to puppet man, like so you could look at it and know so much. i have a lot of drawing of him but not of his puppets and Jon wanted to know more about his stereo and karaoke machine. i get that i really agree and i think that could give the project a lot more depth and interest, and from that more design ideas and concepts would come. I'm a bit like wah but i know if i do this it will be better and i can do better its just a lot to think about when there is such a short time left before this has to be ready to print. i also wanted to go home next week as we have a reading week so i could still work from home but i really need to stay to make the most use out of the library and being able to use photoshop etc.
